The Power of Self-Determination: Was the Genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire Predetermined? The author makes an attempt to substantiate the universal reason for being successful or unsuccessful by the peoples and states in ensuring their viability in the periods of radical changes in the world order. As history proves, many of them cannot find themselves in such conditions, which leads to losses and national catastrophes. And this happens when concepts that can provide viable properties of the peoples are completely absent from the national consciousness. With the examples of global events in the periods of the First World War and the collapse of the USSR, the author argues that these concepts refer to the issues of Self-Determination and Sovereignty. And a conclusion is made that Sovereignty, formed by Self-Determination, generates a source and sufficient resources for the Nation’s Power, capable to ensure its vitality and sustainability. In the case of a misunderstanding by the Nation of the deep sense of these concepts, any of its actions aimed at finding a saving power lead the Nation along the path of losses. This also explains the causes of the national catastrophe of Armenians during the collapse of the Ottoman and Russian empires.
